I just wanted to thank all of you for attending this first ever Channel Evaluation for my subscribers. This is a great way to give back to my community and share success tips for all of you. The ideas kept flowing towards me and finally came to the conclusion that the best way to give back was to do a free channel evaluation for one of my subscribers.
My hopes are to offer great tips and advice that will help not only the lucky subscriber that is picked for the month, but for everyone watching who could use a little information on how to better your YouTube channel.

Lindsay was chosen to be my first Channel Evaluation. She is a subscriber of mine and is always asking questions or leaving comments for me. She is very engaging and I really like that in a subscriber. Lindsay has her own crafting channel on YouTube and seems to have a great niche as well as a strong community that follows her. I found out that Lindsay started her crafting channel about 4 years ago because she loved sharing her ideas with others. She started out with a blog to show her subscribers what she was up to. Soon after that, everyone seemed to beg her for step-by-step instructions so they could replicate her creation. That is when she grabbed her camera and started doing tutorial video blogs. When she saw that over a hundred people had watched her video blog, Lindsay decided that there had to be more to get her channel up and running.

After a phone call and a 2 hour consultation interview, I was able to assist Lindsay Weirich from Maine with her YouTube channel and found some great ways to help her out. After a thorough discussion, I was confident that Lindsay, The Frugal Crafter, had my 5 best tips, plus a Mega Money Making Idea. This is what we discussed:
Watch the Video Below

TIP #1 Give all of your videos intros and outros. This is so important because it reinstates your brand to your viewers. When your audience see the ‘Subscribe to My Channel’ or ‘Watch These Other Videos”, this can make a huge impact on what your viewer will do next. By doing this you will see an increase in viewer watch time, more clicks on your ads, more visibility, and find a spike in your subscribers while gaining more authority.

TIP #2 I saw that Lindsay has a great following on Pinterest, but she didn’t have any of her videos on there. This would be a great place for her to do some self-promotion and really make a connection with others who love the same niche. I told her to add her video blogs to different boards and also ask friends to pin her videos. It will spread like wildfire and be amazed at how fast her audience grows and subscribers she gets just by doing these things.

TIP #3 Improve your website to help your subscribers create habits that will help them watch your channel. Get a sign-up for a newsletter on there and notify subscribers through an email that you have updated your content or uploaded a video. This will update your newsfeed so people know that you have added something new to your channel. You already have a great schedule set to upload your content, so take advantage of it to keep your viewers informed. Add a button where viewers can click to see the videos of the week, or something similar to that. Also, you need to strategically place your ads that are relevant to your channel.

TIP #4 Make more money through sponsorship. A lot of money can be made to add sponsors to your channel. It can be done through FameBit.com or just by going out to find them yourself. Lindsay’s channel has 67,000 subscribers so far, and that is a lot of crafters that watch her content and associate with what her sponsors are offering.

TIP #5 Do collaborations. Collaborating is the fastest way to grow your audience. And after talking with Lindsay about this, she went out and found a great friend to collaborate with. They will be showing others how to make Halloween costumes for under $10 dollars. This will cause a huge spike in audience retention. Make sure to add an end card on your collaborations to get your viewers to look at other related videos.

The Mega Money Making Idea is to look at your target audience and identify what resonates with them. Then, make your channel more successful by using tent-pole programming. Tent-pole opportunities are holidays, different seasons of the year, or popular cultural events. Every month you could put out a free product and a paid product to build your audience that relates to a season or holiday to explode your income. Lindsay actually decided what her first Mega Money Making Idea was going to be. She decided to do an eBook of basic watercolor techniques and supplies. Other ideas could be to send free crafting supplies or stencils that relate to a holiday. As you draw and grow your audience, you will have more opportunity to give people things that they actually want. This is a great way to grow your email list and reach to her audience and offer them more helpful tips with emails. Again, this will open up the door to more opportunities as you ask your audience what they would like to see in a crafting video session that will funnel your audience into purchasing things from you. This is important to get your viewers more interested in your YouTube channel, so be sure to ask them to engage with you, leave comments, and post some ideas of what they would like to see added to your channel.
