Have you ever submitted a copyright complaint with YouTube? I’ve had to do it a couple of times only after I have given the people a few weeks to take the opportunity to take down my content. It’s only when they don’t respond that I have no recourse left except to submit a copyright complaint with YouTube.

Copyright strikes are not good. It affects your features like custom thumbnails, and your given time limitations which make it difficult to use your YouTube account the way it is set up. And when anyone makes a verified complaint, the strike affects their YouTube account. Now remember, we only get three strikes before we are completely blacklisted from YouTube, so this is a very important issue to know about.

Believe it or not, I get a lot of requests from people asking me how to get their copyright strikes removed from their account. They don’t want to waste six months waiting… only want the full functionality of YouTube. Now, for the good news. YouTube just added a new feature to help get those copyright strikes removed. But it is done in a different way.

First, you want to go to the upper right-hand corner and click on the avatar icon, mouse down to Creator Studio. Go to the left-hand side and click Video Manager and look for Submit Retraction. Click on that and select the video that you want to submit the retraction to withdraw the complaint from and this will be filed with YouTube. This will only work if the video is still there and the person who uploaded your content hasn’t already deleted it.

Anyone that has copyright strikes against them can send a private message. I would encourage you to reach out, plead your case, and tell them why you won’t do it again. Hopefully they will have a little mercy on you and retract the claim.
