Ready to learn how to change YouTube Video Thumbnail. Start by going to the video manager in your YouTube account. Then click on the edit button of the video that needs the thumbnail changed. YouTube automatically selects three thumbnails to choose from and one of them might be great, but I recommend using this step because it’s going to bring more conversions. It’s about more people clicking on that video and watching the video. Click the custom thumbnail button, found under the thumbnails Youtube creates.

First step is to find out the file size needed to create that thumbnail. They suggest to use 1280 pixels by 720 pixels. It can be uploaded as a JPEG, PNG, or whatever and have it to be no more than 2 MB.

To start, click on the video and click the “Watch On YouTube” button at the bottom right. Once the video loads simply find the exact shot to use. And then hit full-screen mode and take a screen-shot of the picture that we selected in the video. On Windows you can use the snipping tool. On a Mac all you need to do is hit command, shift, 4 to take a screen-shot of the image. For advanced users, there is a tool called Skitch that increases the resolution of that screen shot which is great if you want to a higher-quality image. Once the picture has been saved leave the full-screen mode and go to Pixlr.com.Hit open pixelr editor and click on where it says create a new image. Scroll all the way down to where it says movie 720. And it brings it in at 1280 x 720, so it’s already the right size. Click ok and that should bring up the document. In the upper left-hand corner here click on open image. Then select the saved document from the desktop. Over in the right-hand corner click on the layers and just drag it to the new frame. Adjust the picture as needed.

Click on the insert text button on the left side of the screen, it looks like a capitol A. Add any text needed on the custom thumbnail. Also, the text can be modified, made bigger or smaller, different style font, change the color, etc. When it looks perfect click ok. Then click where it says, “Layer Styles” on the right-hand side. Click bevel, then create the size until it’s perfect. Then click drop shadow and adjust that as needed as well. Now click file and save. Name the file YouTube Thumbnail. Select the format as a JPEG and set the quality at 100% then click ok.

Once that’s done go back to Youtube video manager, click the edit button on the video. Upload the image then select it and hit save changes. That’s how you customize those thumbnails for the YouTube videos.
