A lot of mobile users ask me for tips on how to be more effective while using YouTube on any kind of device, especially from an iPad, iPod, or iPhone. All it takes is a little practice and before you know it, you are running them all like a pro.
The first thing you need to do to use YouTube from iPhone iPod or iPad is properly install the YouTube app onto your device. Launch it, and then login with your username and password that you have for your own YouTube channel.
YouTube brings in a feed for videos to watch. However if you’re looking for a certain video, in the upper right-hand corner look for the magnifying glass icon, click on it, and you are able to search in YouTube for videos, channels, and playlists.
To go back, hit the arrow button. If you want to see the menu click on the three bars in the upper left-hand corner. Once you do that you’ll see:
What to Watch, Subscriptions, Uploads, History, Watch Later, Capture‒ which will launch another application, or click more to Show Playlists (hit the Show Fewer button and it will contract the menu again).
You can also see all of your subscriptions so you can watch a specific channel. You can see the Home button where you also have a list of videos, playlists, and channels which shows all the content right here, and notice that there is a big red button to subscribe.
Let’s head back to the very bottom of the menu and see The Best of YouTube. This shows you what is popular and also gives you a button to subscribe. There will also be other videos that coordinate with these channels, so take a look and see what interest you.
Now, let’s see what there is to watch! Scroll up to the top, click on What to Watch. To navigate this portion of the YouTube app, you can choose to search for something. And what is great about it that you can continue to read the comments as you are watching the video. Or just tilt the phone and it will go to full-screen mode. Also, there is a cool feature in the Overview that you can pull down that lets you watch the video while you’re looking at your other results.
Remember, if you don’t want to tilt your device, you can click on the full-screen mode or swipe to the left to have it return to the regular screen mode. One last thing to know about this is that it’s going to continue the mobile series to help you be more efficient and effective on YouTube while using your mobile device.
