Have you been wondering why your YouTube video freezes at 301 views and is not going anywhere? If you have spent a lot of time on YouTube, you may be one of those that are inquiring to know the answer to this question. To help you understand this fully, there are a couple of things we will discuss:
- Data Centers House Videos
- YouTube Has Facilities that Store Videos All Over the World
- YouTube Operates Globally
- When You Watch a YouTube Video, It Is Recorded As One Video View
As you can see, there are many parts to uploading a video. First, YouTube will find the closest data center and house the video, whether you’re in the US, Australia, Beijing, or Paraguay. If you are in the United States, for example, your uploaded video will find the closest facility and store it there. Then, it has a copy of the video made called a ‘cache’ and sends it out to all other data facilities throughout the world.
When that specific YouTube video is watched, that video actually generates a log telling YouTube that someone viewed a video. A log is then sent back to a central location saying that it recorded one view at that YouTube facility. Once this is done, this information updates across the board showing that the view has been recorded and now the video has a view.
And this is where the fun begins! When 998 people want to watch the same video in one day, all around the world, all the different data facilities are logging its views and sends this information back to the central location. YouTube then verifies that this video has actually been viewed and then it is put on a temporary hold at 301 views.
While it’s on hold, this information is being verified by all the different servers out there. So it will show that it only has 301 views while it is being evaluated whether they are actual views or not. It then goes through the verification process to confirm if these are true views. When the hold comes off, and you have the green light telling you that all your video views were actual, then your views are posted back to the current number of 998 views.
